Eye Catching Royal Doulton Slaters Stoneware Vase Circa 1900 By Jane Rumbol.

Doulton Slaters Patent Mark to base signed with the artists monogram rOO (Jane Rumbol) and Lh (unknown) - Pattern number 1992

The description Slaters was given to an unusual type of decoration which evolved in the 1880’s. This was created by John Slater (manager of Doulton’s Burslem Pottery) and was used predominantly between 1885 and 1915. The distinctive feature of these wares is a textured background achieved by pressing moistened pieces of textured fabric into the soft clay. A design was then applied over the textured body. The process was patented jointly by Doulton and Slater
