Beautiful 19th Century Watercolour by the Birmingham Born Artist Frederick Mercer.

Frederick Mercer, RBSA (1850-1939)
Born in Birmingham in 1850, the son of a fishmonger, Frederick Mercer started work at the age of 10 as an errand boy. By the time he was 20 he was employed as a photographer whilst still living with his parents and five surviving siblings in Fordrough Street, Birmingham. The next census of 1881 describes Frederick as ‘artist, water colour landscapist’, though he must have been painting some considerable time before that.
He exhibited six watercolours at Suffolk Street & four works at the New Watercolour Society
