Bernard Dufour is a French artist known for his Sapphic paintings of young woman. Born on November 21, 1922 in Paris, France, Dufour fought during World War II and was forced into labour when captured by the German army, coincidentally working alongside the novelist Alain Robbe-Grillet. He studied art at the University of Heidelberg and, after the war, staged two successful solo shows and participated in the second documenta exhibition. Initially an abstract artist, Dufour turned to nude and figurative artwork
