Rare J & E Steven’s Cast Iron Counter Ball Or Dime Skill Game

This is an 1887 patented mechanical figurine which is in original condition with normal wear to paintwork commensurate with age and use. A dime or ball is placed in the figure's hand and when the rear level is pressed, the tongue lowers to accept the offering, the eyes move and the ball is dropped into the bottom base with slots numbers 5, 7 or 9.

The object of the game is to bet what slot the ball or dime hits. Many collectors call this a mechanical bank but since the items that the man eats are returned, I believe J. E. Steven’s viewed this as a table top game.
