Rare Art ‘Veduta del Ponte Molle sul Tevere’ Engraving Art By Luigi Rossini 1822
Powerful copper engraving of the Mulvian (or Milvian) Bridge over the Tiber River in northern Rome, looking up at the ancient structure from the riverside. Luigi Rossini (1790 - 1857) is noted for his stunning engravings such as this one, which render classical Roman architecture in exquisite detail. During the Roman Empire, the Bridge was economically and strategically important, and was the site of a famous battle between Roman Emperors Constantine and Maxentius. Title continues, "due miglia lontano da Roma. Questo Ponte e stato ristaurato, e costruito l'Arco Trionfale A.dal Sommo Pontefice PIO VII. Regnante" (two miles from Rome, this bridge was restored and a triumphal arch was constructed during the reign of Pope Pius VII)
