A substantial and impressive mid-19th century family Bible titled The Imperial Family Bible, published by Blackie and Son, Queen Street, Glasgow, with additional imprints in Edinburgh and London, dated MDCCCL (1850).
This large-format Bible contains the Old and New Testaments according to the Authorised Version and is richly illustrated with a superb series of engraved plates, typical of high-quality Victorian family Bibles. It also includes family register page which has not been filled in, beautifully decorated with detailed allegorical and domestic engravings, intended for recording births, marriages and deaths.

Binding
Original full leather binding with gilt-lettered spine. The binding shows heavy age-related wear, including scuffing, rubbing, losses to the leather, exposed boards and cracking to the spine. The front joint has a small split, consistent with a book of this size and age.
Measures approx 38 x 28cm and is heavy.
