Antique Porcelain Christening Mug / Tankard – Dated 1853 – Hand-Painted Landscape & Gilt Decoration
A charming 19th-century porcelain mug or tankard, beautifully decorated with a hand-painted pastoral landscape scene featuring a country path, figures, trees and a castellated building in the distance. The piece is richly embellished with ornate gilt scrollwork, with the date “1853” prominently picked out in gold within decorative cartouches.
The mug has a robust cylindrical form, a scroll handle, and gilt rims to the lip and foot, all typical of mid-Victorian decorative wares. The painting is finely executed with soft colouring and good detail, making this an attractive and evocative historical piece.
