A superb and historically interesting Victorian Holy Bible, printed in London in 1869 by George E. Eyre & William Spottiswoode, Printers to the Queen’s Most Excellent Majesty, Fleet Street.


This edition contains the Old and New Testaments and is titled:


“The Holy Bible, Containing the Old and New Testaments… Appointed to be Read in Churches.”


What makes this example particularly special is the original presentation certificate bound within:


“The Association for the Advancement of Education in the Mining & Manufacturing District of North Staffordshire”


The certificate is dated October 8th 1879 and awarded to Sarah Moore, signed by the President of the Association. A fascinating piece of regional industrial and educational history from Victorian Staffordshire.
