Antique George Jones & Sons “Abbey 1790” Blue Transferware Large Footed Bowl c.1910
A beautiful and highly decorative antique George Jones & Sons large footed bowl in the sought-after “Abbey 1790” pattern, dating to circa 1910.
This striking piece features a rich cobalt blue transfer-printed design depicting romanticised abbey ruins within an ornate scrolling border. The centre scene shows gothic architectural elements and trees, framed by an elaborate rococo-style cartouche with finely detailed border work extending around the interior rim. The depth and clarity of the transfer print are excellent, with lovely tonal variation typical of quality early 20th-century English manufacture.
George Jones & Sons of Stoke-on-Trent were well regarded for their high-quality earthenware and transferware, and the “Abbey 1790” pattern remains one of their most attractive historic revival designs.
