Historical Background
H.M.S. Pandora was commissioned in 1779 and is best remembered for her role in pursuing the mutineers of the famous ship HMS Bounty. In 1791, while returning after capturing several mutineers, Pandora struck the Great Barrier Reef and sank. Thirty-one crew members and four prisoners were lost when the ship went down.
This model commemorates that historic vessel and the dramatic events surrounding the search for Fletcher Christian.
