A beautiful example of Victorian English majolica by the renowned pottery George Jones, widely regarded as one of the finest and most desirable majolica manufacturers of the 19th century.
This charming piece consists of a ceramic bowl and matching stand, richly decorated in high relief with oak leaves and acorns, a classic Victorian naturalistic motif symbolising strength and longevity. The exterior features deep brown ground with vibrant green leaves and yellow acorns, while the interior of the bowl displays a striking soft lilac glaze that contrasts beautifully with the warm yellow rim and stand.
Originally this model would have been made with a cover, though the lid is no longer present. Even without the cover it remains a very decorative and collectible piece of Victorian majolica tableware.
Condition:
• Small chip to the rim (as shown in photos)
• Otherwise in good antique condition with typical age-related wear
• Glazes remain vibrant and attractive
