A quiet Essex evening captured in watercolour 🌙

Robert Graham Dryden Alexander was a British painter born in Brentwood, Essex in 1875. He is known for his landscapes, coastal scenes, and rural studies, particularly around Essex and the East Anglian coastline.
Although initially encouraged into business, Alexander was allowed to study art for a short period and went on to develop a body of work focused on the English countryside and seaside locations. His works often depict Walton-on-the-Naze and surrounding areas, reflecting a strong local connection to the region.
He worked in a variety of media including watercolour, oil, and pencil, producing both finished works and sketches. His paintings have appeared regularly at auction, with typical estimates reflecting steady collector interest in traditional British landscape artists.
Alexander’s work is appreciated for its quiet charm, naturalistic tones, and sensitive depiction of rural life in early 20th-century England.
