Antique Chinese Export Silver Dip Pen c1900 Ornate Desk Writing Item
A fine antique Chinese export silver dip pen, dating to around circa 1900, beautifully crafted as an elegant desk writing accessory.
This piece features a tapered shaft with intricate chased decoration, typical of Chinese export silver work produced for the Western market in the late 19th / early 20th century. Pieces of this type were often made for export and combine European forms with traditional Chinese motifs .
The terminal is finished with a decorative elephant finial while the opposite end retains its original nib holder section, designed to accept a replaceable dip pen nib.
Dip pens such as this were widely used before the rise of fountain pens, requiring the user to dip the nib into ink for writing or drawing
Measures approx 16cm in length
The elephant detail adds strong decorative appeal, often symbolising good luck and strength, making this a standout example compared to plain dip pens. Perfect for collectors of Chinese silver, writing antiques, or unusual desk items.
