A superb quality 19thC mahogany dressing table mirror, dating to the late 19th century, combining elegant proportions with refined decorative detail.
This is a classic toilet mirror form, featuring a rectangular gilt edge decorated mirror plate set within a finely crafted mahogany frame. The mirror is supported by elegant uprights with turned finials, and retains its original tilting mechanism with brass side adjusters.
The base is particularly attractive, fitted with three drawers (two small flanking a central drawer), all with turned handles. The drawer fronts display beautifully figured mahogany grain.
To each side are decorative inlaid panels, likely satinwood or boxwood stringing with classical shell motif, typical of the Victorian / Edwardian taste for lighter, refined ornamentation influenced by earlier Sheraton and Hepplewhite styles.
The mirror frame is further enhanced with a gilt slip / decorative inner border, adding a touch of contrast and elegance.
Measures approx 64.5cm x x 63.5cm wide x 21cm deep
In good antique condition overall. The mirror plate shows some age-relating marks consistent with age and adding authentic character. Light wear to the polish and minor marks as expected from use. Some loss to shell inlay, see close up photos. Structurally sound and displays beautifully.
