Vintage Mabel Lucie Attwell Designed Bisque & Composition Doll With Original Box
A charming vintage composition doll, designed by the celebrated illustrator Mabel Lucie Attwell, complete with its original pink illustrated box bearing the Attwell name. The doll features a beautifully painted face with bright blue sleeping eyes, rosy cheeks and red lips, together with an auburn curly wig and period-style white dress with lace trim.
The doll retains her original blue shoes and underwear and has the classic weighted sleepy eyes which close when laid down. A lovely decorative and collectible vintage nursery piece.
Condition is commensurate with age and use. There is visible crack to the bisque body. Wear and losses to the wig cap can be seen to the back of the head, with general age-related marks and wear throughout. The original box is included but has wear, scuffs and edge losses from storage over the years. Please study all photographs carefully as they form part of the description.

Mabel Lucie Attwell (1879–1964) was one of Britain’s most beloved illustrators, famous for her charming depictions of rosy-cheeked children, fairies and whimsical nursery characters. Her artwork became hugely popular during the early to mid-20th century and appeared on postcards, annuals, books, ceramics, toys and dolls.
Attwell studied at the Regent Street Polytechnic in London and gained fame through illustrations for classic children’s books including Alice in Wonderland and Peter Pan. Her instantly recognisable style — featuring playful toddlers and cherubic children — became iconic in nurseries across Britain and beyond.
Today, original Mabel Lucie Attwell items remain highly collectible, especially vintage prints, postcards, nursery china and dolls associated with her artwork and branding.
