Antique Regency Rosewood Sarcophagus Tea Caddy on Bun Feet
A fine Regency period rosewood tea caddy of classic sarcophagus form, dating from the early 19th century, circa 1820-1840. Constructed in beautifully figured rosewood with rich grain patterns throughout and raised on elegant brass bun feet.
The hinged lid opens to reveal a fitted interior comprising two lidded tea compartments flanking the original cut glass mixing bowl. The interior retains much of its original lining and fittings, providing an attractive glimpse into the caddy’s original function. The tea compartment lids are veneered in matching rosewood and fitted with turned bone handles. The centre features an attractive faceted glass mixing bowl used for blending teas.
Externally, the caddy displays excellent colour and patina with decorative carved edging to the lid and sides, a brass escutcheon to the front and a substantial raised handle to the top.
A highly decorative piece, ideal for collectors of Regency antiques, tea caddies or period decorative objects.
Condition:
Good antique condition with age-related wear, marks and minor veneer imperfections consistent with age and use. Please study photographs carefully as they form part of the description.
