A highly decorative antique Victorian relief moulded pottery jug commemorating the Shakespeare Tercentenary of 1864, marking 300 years since the birth of William Shakespeare (1564–1616).
Finished in an attractive deep salmon-pink glaze, this impressive jug features richly moulded decoration throughout, including repeating shell motifs, ornate scrolling detail, a portrait medallion of Shakespeare, and raised inscriptions reading:
“WILL SHAKSPEARE BORN 1564”
“TERCENTENARY 1864”
