A charming antique pastel portrait depicting a young boy with auburn hair, dressed in a traditional sailor-style outfit. Executed in pastel/chalk on paper, the portrait captures the child’s expressive features and soft colouring with considerable skill. Housed in an attractive and ornate oval gilt composition frame with decorative ribbon and scroll embellishments.
Likely dating from the early to mid Victorian period this is a decorative and characterful example of portraiture from the era, suitable for display in both traditional and contemporary interiors.
Condition:
* Presented in its original oval gilt frame.
* Some age-related wear and losses to the gilt decoration.
* The pastel shows minor surface marks and light craquelure consistent with age. Also it was original glazed and is now missing the glass
* There is a small area where there’s a tear to the pastel, to the forehead area (please see photographs).
* Original backing paper to the reverse is worn and torn with partial original gallery label
The frame measures approx 81cm x 65cm, it is delicate so I can’t promise there won’t be further loss to it during transit so happy for buyer to collect otherwise it is sold as seen and i will not refund on this item should the frame be damaged any further
