Rare Antique Doulton Burslem Twin-Handled Vase, Hand-Painted Church Landscape, c.1891–1902

A striking and unusual authentic Doulton Burslem pottery vase, dating from approximately 1891–1902. The vase is beautifully hand-painted with an atmospheric landscape scene featuring a church with a tall spire, trees and surrounding buildings.

It has a rich, warm colour palette of deep brown, amber-yellow and green, with an attractive dark green glazed neck and interior. The landscape decoration appears to have been individually painted rather than transfer-printed, giving the piece considerable character. The warm, lustrous glaze technique is reminiscent of early Royal Doulton art pottery lines such as Kingsware and Holbein Ware.

An especially interesting feature is the unusual twin-handled design, with broad, sweeping handles extending from either side of the neck and joining the rounded body. This distinctive form makes the vase particularly decorative and appealing to collectors.

The base markings identify the piece as Doulton Burslem pottery and support a date of approximately 1891–1902. Additional impressed, inscribed and handwritten marks may relate to the production or decoration of the vase.

Condition:

Good antique condition overall, with age-related crazing, surface marks and wear consistent with its age. There is some wear and nibbling, chips around the handle and rim areas, as shown in the photographs. Please study all photographs carefully, as they form an important part of the condition description.
