A superb large and colourful textile / soft painting by renowned Israeli artist Calman Shemi, titled “Terraces in the Galil.”


This striking work depicts an abstract interpretation of the terraced landscape of Galilee, Israel, with stylised trees, hills and geometric forms. Shemi uses a wonderful combination of turquoise, blue, ochre, coral, orange, pink and green, together with stitched and drawn detailing, giving the work tremendous texture and depth.


The artwork is signed “Calman Shemi” to the lower left of the front.


The reverse is additionally inscribed:

and bears further artist/production markings together with the reference SC 210.

About Calman Shemi


Calman Shemi was an Argentine-born Israeli artist internationally recognised for his colourful paintings, sculpture and innovative textile artworks. He became particularly associated with his distinctive “soft paintings”, using textiles and fibres to create richly textured works that combine painting with tapestry-like techniques.


His work is characterised by strong colour, simplified forms and abstracted landscapes, making Terraces in the Galil a particularly attractive example of his distinctive style.

The front presents very well, retaining strong, vibrant colours.


There are areas of staining, discolouration and age-related marking to the reverse


A substantial and highly decorative signed Calman Shemi textile artwork, measuring over four feet across and with the original title recorded on the reverse.
