Pairoj Karndee – “Patpong Angel” – Original Thai Contemporary Art – Acrylic on Canvas – Signed & Dated 2013
An impressive and highly distinctive original work by Thai contemporary artist Pairoj Karndee, titled “Patpong Angel”.
The painting depicts a striking female figure in angelic form, facing directly forward with a fashionable bobbed hairstyle, vivid blue lips and beautifully rendered pink-toned skin. The composition has an ethereal, almost sculptural quality characteristic of Karndee’s work.
Karndee’s distinctive figurative style is influenced by the mysterious Apsaras, the celestial maidens of ancient Asian culture famously represented within the temples and galleries of Angkor Wat, Cambodia.
The artist is particularly known for painstakingly building layers of acrylic paint to recreate the appearance and texture of ancient stone surfaces. This unusual technique gives his figures a wonderful sense of depth and age while combining traditional Asian imagery with a distinctly contemporary aesthetic.
Karndee’s female subjects are particularly expressive, often conveying a fascinating mixture of serenity, mystery and emotion.
