Antique c1870 Brown’s Self-Interpreting Family Bible John Brown Colour Plates

Antique c1870 Brown’s Self-Interpreting Family Bible John Brown Colour Plates

A wonderful large Victorian family Bible, Brown’s Self-Interpreting Bible, by the Rev. John Brown, D.D., published by Adam & Co., London & Newcastle-upon-Tyne.

Dating from approximately the 1860s–1870s, this impressive antique Bible is presented in its original substantial binding with decorative tooled and gilt detailing.

The volume contains the Old and New Testaments together with extensive notes, explanations and references associated with Brown’s celebrated Self-Interpreting Bible.

Of particular interest are the attractive illustrated plates, including colour illustrations, which add considerably to the decorative and historical appeal of the book.

Condition:

A genuine antique example showing considerable age-related wear. The original binding has rubbing, scuffing and wear, particularly around the spine, corners and edges, as would be expected from a large Bible of this age. There is general age-related toning, marking and occasional foxing internally.

Despite the external wear, the book remains an impressive and highly decorative Victorian family Bible, with the illustrated plates retaining good colour.

Please study all photographs carefully as these form an important part of the condition description.

An excellent piece for a Bible collector, Victorian book collection, family-history display or period interior, and an increasingly attractive decorative antique in its own right.
