Antique c1890 American New Haven Crown Walnut Mantel Shelf Clock 1 Day Striking Working

Antique c1890 New Haven Crown Walnut Mantel Shelf Clock 1 Day Striking Working

A handsome antique American New Haven Clock Company mantel/shelf clock, dating to approximately the late 19th century, circa 1890s.

The clock is housed in an ornate architectural walnut wooden case, with an impressive carved and pierced crown pediment, scrolling decoration and shaped sides. The aged finish and patina give it plenty of genuine period character.

The cream dial has Roman numerals, two winding apertures and traditional black hands, surrounded by a brass-coloured bezel.

Below the dial is the original-style decorative reverse-painted/glass panel, featuring an attractive gilt floral and vase design against a black ground. The brass-coloured pendulum is visible through the lower section when fitted.

A 1-day mechanical movement, requiring regular winding. The clock is currently running, keeping time and striking/chiming. As with all antique mechanical clocks, accuracy over an extended period cannot be guaranteed and adjustment may be required after transportation.

The clock retains its pendulum as photographed.

Condition: Good antique condition overall with wear, marks, scratches, fading and age-related patination to the wooden case consistent with its considerable age. There is evidence of historic wear and old woodworm holes visible to the side/rear timber; buyers should study the photographs carefully. The dial also displays age-related discolouration and wear. These features add to its authentic antique appearance rather than it having been heavily restored.

I’m not sure if or how it works so is sold in untested/not working condition. See photos as they form part of description
