Vintage Terres d’Orient Algerian Pottery Coffee Set Jug & 3 Goblets Cave Art
A striking and highly decorative vintage Terres d’Orient Algerian pottery coffee set, comprising a large lidded coffee pot and three matching pedestal goblets.
The pottery has a wonderful hand-crafted appearance, finished in warm, earthy shades of sand, ochre, brown and black, with a deliberately textured and antiqued surface.
Each piece is individually decorated with stylised animals, human figures and geometric symbols inspired by ancient North African rock and cave art. The combination of primitive-style imagery and sculptural forms gives the set a particularly distinctive appearance.
The coffee pot is especially impressive, with a generous rounded body, large curved handle, long sweeping spout and fitted lid topped with a pointed finial. The three accompanying drinking vessels are raised on pedestal feet and carry complementary hand-painted decoration.
Cups are approx 14cm h
Teapot approx 26cm h
The decoration and handmade character mean that there are natural variations between the individual pieces rather than the uniformity associated with mass-produced ceramics.
The set comprises:
* 1 large lidded coffee pot
* 3 matching pedestal goblets
* 4 pieces in total
Condition
The set presents very attractively overall
There may also be minor surface and age-related wear consistent with a vintage hand-decorated pottery set. Please study all photographs carefully as they form an important part of the condition description.
An unusual and very decorative piece of Algerian / North African ceramic art, ideal for a collector of vintage studio pottery, ethnic ceramics, North African decorative arts or unusual Mid-Century interiors.
