1929 Dunton Bedfordshire Farrier Blacksmith A.J. Grundy Horse Shoeing Receipt Framed
An original 1929 horse-shoeing account/receipt from A. J. Grundy, Shoeing and General Smith, Dunton, beautifully presented in a vintage glazed frame.
The printed billhead features a particularly attractive period illustration of a horse being shod at the forge, with blacksmiths/farriers at work.
Dated “Quarter Ending Sept. 30 1929”, the account appears to have been made out to Mr J. Fowler and contains a fascinating handwritten record of work carried out during June–September, including:
8 shoes, feet dressed, 4 shoes, 8 shoes and “1 split pin”, amongst other entries.
The total appears to be £2 11s 8d, giving a wonderful little snapshot of the cost of keeping working or riding horses shod in rural Bedfordshire nearly 100 years ago.
There is also a handwritten acknowledgement/payment notation dated November 1929, apparently signed by A. J. Grundy.
The document has genuine age-related creasing, folds, staining and marks, all of which add to its character and authenticity. It has been mounted behind glass in a dark wood-effect frame with gilt inner detailing. Please study photographs for condition.
An unusual piece of Bedfordshire local history, particularly interesting to collectors of Dunton memorabilia, blacksmithing and farrier history, equestrian antiques, agricultural ephemera and vintage trade invoices.
