Each miniature measures approximately 7 cm x 9.5 cm, making these charming small-scale works particularly appealing to collectors of German art, miniature paintings and Alpine memorabilia.
The Artist – Hans Frey (1900–1982)
Hans Frey was a German painter, porcelain painter, printmaker and mountaineer. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich in 1927.
His artistic background and interest in mountaineering make the Alpine subjects of these miniatures especially appropriate.
Both pictures bear the inscription/imprint “Hans Frey / München 38” on the reverse, providing an important connection to the artist and their Munich origins.
The Two Alpine Scenes
1. Neuschwanstein Castle, Bavaria
A romantic depiction of the celebrated Neuschwanstein Castle, dramatically positioned above a wooded hillside, with distant mountain peaks and a beautiful blue lake.
The delicate architectural details, soft mountain colours and lush green foreground capture the fairy-tale atmosphere of this famous Bavarian landmark.
2. Alpine Gentian with Mountain Landscape
A striking botanical composition featuring a vivid cobalt-blue Alpine gentian flower with a purple unopened bud, set against a backdrop of towering, snow-covered Alpine mountains.
The rich blue and violet tones contrast beautifully with the fresh green foliage and softly painted mountain scenery.
Frames and Presentation
Both miniatures are housed in matching decorative metal frames with an attractive dark, aged finish and finely patterned borders.
Their small size and matching presentation make them ideal for display together on a cabinet, antique writing desk, shelf or within a collection of miniature artworks.
A charming and collectible pair of German Alpine miniatures, combining the romance of Bavarian architecture with the natural beauty of Alpine flora and mountain scenery.
Offered together as a matching pair.
