Antique 1929 Art Deco Glug Glug Glass Decanter – Hukin & Heath Birmingham Sterling Silver Collar - Perfect for entertaining
A beautiful and highly decorative antique Art Deco Glug Glug decanter dating to 1929, featuring an elegant sculptural glass body, a hallmarked sterling silver collar by the renowned Birmingham silversmiths Hukin & Heath, and a substantial spherical glass stopper.
This striking decanter is a wonderful example of early 20th-century British design, combining traditional craftsmanship with the bold, flowing lines associated with the Art Deco period.
The distinctive clear glass body features a rounded, bulbous upper section, flowing into a dramatically moulded and vertically fluted waist before widening into a substantial rounded rectangular base.
Known as a Glug Glug or Gluggle Decanter, this unusual style takes its name from the characteristic gurgling sound produced when liquid is poured.
The decanter is finished with an attractive flared sterling silver collar, bearing the maker’s mark for Hukin & Heath (H&H), Birmingham assay marks and a date letter identified as 1929.
The clear spherical glass stopper complements the unusual shape beautifully.
Measures approx 28cm in height
Good antique condition overall, with age-related wear consistent with its approximately 97 years of age.
There is some residue and cloudiness to the interior base of the decanter, as clearly shown in the photographs. This has not been removed and is mentioned for complete accuracy.
The glass displays some light surface marks associated with age and previous use.
The sterling silver collar collar and stopper are in good condition
An attractive and increasingly sought-after style of antique decanter, combining the elegant design of the Art Deco era with the craftsmanship of the established Birmingham silversmiths Hukin & Heath.
Perfect for collectors of antique glass, hallmarked silver, Art Deco decorative arts and unusual vintage barware.
A beautiful display piece for a drinks cabinet, dining room or antique glass collection.
