Antique Bronze Lister Bros Ltd “Rotairspeed” Drying Tumbler Industrial Machinery Plaque
An antique industrial machinery manufacturer’s plaque for a Lister Bros. Ltd. “Rotairspeed” Drying Tumbler, featuring raised bronze-coloured lettering against a dark, finely textured background.
This rectangular plaque has a decorative raised border, rounded corners and six original mounting holes, giving it an attractive industrial appearance.
The plaque bears the following wording:
“ROTAIRSPEED”
DRYING TUMBLER
PATENT No. 511612
LISTER BROS. LTD.
MACHINE No. 910.59.
The plaque would originally have been attached to a commercial or industrial drying tumbler, identifying the manufacturer, patented machinery design and individual machine number.
Historical Interest
Lister Bros. Ltd. manufactured machinery associated with industrial drying and laundry processes. The “Rotairspeed” name suggests a rotary drying system designed for commercial use.
Patent number 511612 is particularly interesting and offers an opportunity for further research into the original machinery and its development.
The plaque is an appealing survivor of Britain’s industrial engineering heritage and would make an unusual decorative piece for a workshop, industrial-themed interior, office or collection of vintage engineering memorabilia.
Condition: Good vintage condition, with attractive age-related patination, minor surface marks and wear consistent with its original industrial use. The raised lettering remains clear and well defined.
Measures approx 16cm x 10 cm and is in good condition
A genuine piece of British industrial history, ideal for collectors of engineering memorabilia, machinery nameplates and industrial antiques.
Lister Bros expanded into laundry engineering and, by the late 1920s, were producing substantial quantities of equipment for mechanised laundries. Brothers Victor and Samuel Lister patented rotary washing machinery, and the firm supplied equipment to public institutions.
