Two Georgian 18th Century Wrythen Moulded Dwarf Ale Glasses C1760
A charming pair of believed 18th-century Georgian dwarf ale drinking glasses, dating to approximately circa 1760–1800.
These attractive glasses feature elegant trumpet-shaped bowls with distinctive wrythen (spiral) moulded decoration, creating a lovely twisting pattern around the glass.
Each stands on a short stem with a pronounced knop, above a circular spreading foot.
The glasses measure approximately 12.5cm and 13cm high respectively. Their slight differences in height and form add to their character and are consistent with individually handmade glassware.
Dwarf ale glasses were popular during the Georgian period, particularly in the 18th century. Their smaller proportions, elegant trumpet-shaped bowls and decorative moulding make them appealing examples of traditional English drinking glass design.
