Original 1975 Portrait of HM Queen Elizabeth II – William Telfer – Ornate Gilt Frame

An impressive and beautifully executed portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, signed by artist William Telfer and dated 1975.

This elegant royal portrait depicts the late Queen seated in a formal interior, wearing a magnificent tiara, diamond jewellery, ceremonial decorations and an elegant pale blue evening gown.

The painting captures the Queen’s distinctive appearance and regal presence, with particularly fine attention to her facial features, jewellery, clothing and surrounding furnishings.

Artist and provenance

The reverse of the canvas bears the handwritten inscription:

“H.M. Queen ELIZABETH II.”

“William TELFER”

“1975”

It also carries the inscription:

“DUNDRENNAN”

EVERTON, Beds.

These inscriptions provide an interesting historical connection to Bedfordshire and offer an excellent starting point for further research into the artist and the painting’s history.

Frame

Presented in a substantial, highly decorative gilt frame featuring elaborate scrolling foliage and raised ornamental corner details.

The frame complements the royal subject beautifully and gives the painting considerable presence.

Condition

The painting presents well overall in the photographs, with attractive colouring and detailed brushwork.

The ornate frame displays noticeable age-related cracking and separation within the decorative moulding, particularly around the corners and raised ornamentation. Please study the photographs carefully, as these form an important part of the description.
