The portrait is of Captain Julian Burgess
Artist
Sherree Valentine-Daines is a celebrated British figurative painter and portrait artist, widely regarded as one of the leading society portrait painters working in the United Kingdom today.
Born in 1956 in Effingham, Surrey, she showed exceptional artistic ability from a young age. She studied at Epsom School of Art and Design, where she developed the confident brushwork and strong figurative style that would later define her career.
Valentine-Daines became known for her elegant portraits of high-profile figures from the worlds of society, theatre, politics, and royalty. Her paintings often capture sitters in relaxed yet sophisticated settings, combining traditional portraiture with a contemporary impressionistic style.
Her career gained significant recognition when she became Artist in Residence at the Savoy Hotel in London, where she painted portraits of notable guests and prominent figures. Over the years she has received commissions from members of the British Royal Family, international celebrities, and leading cultural institutions.
Sherree Valentine-Daines works primarily in oil and mixed media, and her paintings are known for their luminous colour, confident brushstrokes, and ability to capture personality and movement. In addition to portraits, she also paints scenes of British social life, sporting events, and gatherings, often depicting elegant crowds at events such as Royal Ascot or Henley Regatta.
Sherree has exhibited widely in leading galleries and her work is held in numerous private collections both in the UK and internationally. In recognition of her contribution to the arts, she has received several honours and awards during her career.
Today, Sherree Valentine-Daines continues to paint from her studio in Surrey and remains one of Britain’s most sought-after contemporary portrait artists.
