British artist Henry John Sylvester Stannard was born in 1870 in Bedford, England. Stannard was descended from an extensive line of talented painters. He studied at the National Art Training School in South Kensington. In 1906, artist and painter Henry John Sylvester Stannard exhibited at the Royal Academy, the Royal Society of British Artists, and the Royal Cambrian Academy of Art.
Stannard was commissioned by Queen Alexandria to paint watercolors of the picturesque gardens and woods on the Sandringham Estate in Norfolk, England. With the majority of his illustrious watercolors housed in private collections, his painting The East Anglian View went for $14,214 in 2004.
