Lovely 19th Century Staffordshire Majolica Ceramic Cavalier Tobacco Jar
$175.32
Antique Staffordshire Pottery Cavalier Tobacco Jar – Hand Painted Figural Jar – Victorian
A charming and highly decorative Staffordshire pottery tobacco jar modelled as a Cavalier gentleman, full of character and period appeal.
This unusual figural piece depicts a 17th-century style Cavalier wearing a wide-brimmed black hat, ruff collar, blue tunic, yellow breeches and boots. The removable lid cleverly forms the gentleman’s head and shoulders, lifting away to reveal the storage compartment inside the body.
Beautifully hand-painted with bright traditional Staffordshire colours and a glossy glazed finish. A wonderful example of the humorous novelty pieces produced for the smoking gentleman’s table.
There is a small chip to rim at back as photographed and also hairline crack to base with chip as photographed too but this can’t be seen when on display
Measures approx 31cm in height
A fantastic display piece for collectors of Staffordshire figures, tobacciana, smoking antiques or character ceramics.
